MOVING PASTURES & AVALANCHES: LIFE IN THE ORMONTS, THEN AND NOW

Diablerets_vue Chaussy.jpg

The ancestral way of life in the Ormonts, based on transhumance, was shaped by the scarce resources available and by natural hazards, especially avalanches. The location of the hamlets below the Chaussy range, as well as the way the chalets were built and protected, bear witness to the ingenuity of the people of this valley over the centuries. By the end of this hike, you will never look at the landscape and chalets of the Ormonts the same way again.

Duration:     1/2 or 1 day

Difficulty:  easy (T2 max, max elevation gain 700m)

This walk between farms, family houses and mountain chalets will offer you, beyond an immersion in the mountain built heritage, to apprehend the life of yesteryear in the region of Les Diablerets, with its constraints but also its simple pleasures. . In collaboration with Mary-Claude Busset, historian.
